The sound ranges from innocent guitar folk, theatrical comedy and operatic bel canto over the strains of a piano, to melancholy chansons sung to accordion, supported by banging drums. You may hear also some odd electronics and experimental compositions.
The 23-year-old Austrian with Welsh and Basque roots has been a vagabond, busking and playing gigs across various countries. 3 years ago she stumbled into Portugal, where her EP was recorded in 3 weeks. A year later she decided to return to Austria and after some months of creating and performing, it was about time to focus on recording an album.
In 2015 Alicia was touring Europe as a member and supporting act of the folk-punk band Old Trees, but recently left it to focus on her solo project and finally release 'Mother, how could you'.
Alicia Edelweiss home-recorded most of the album by herself, being a multi-instrumentalist and that gives it an honest touch, fitting with the self-ironic stories and the often dramatic performance. She also did the album cover and the booklet design by herself, which makes it a truly personal, lovingly created piece of art. The album will be officially released on 24.April in Vienna, Austria via Glowing Records on CD and on 16. April on a tape via Kontingent Records in Sofia, Bulgaria.
