The Riot Peddlers

Hi boys and girls.

So after some japanese ska and some chinese punk I'm staying on the asian wave with my last, surprisingly good and completely by accident discovery which I'm very excited to wrote about, The Riot Peddlers, a two-piece hardcore punk band from Mumbai, India. So some of you might wonder how I came across this band? Well I already gave you the answer above. But to be honest it came after a talk with a friend of mine who told me that in India there were skinheads (SHARP skins to be precise). I didn't believed me so I tried to search for such thing but to no avail. Then I though if there's such thing as punk in India. I've searched for a while and found nothing more than a bunch of bands that sounded more rock than punk. Then I found these guys. The guy with the mohawk really grabbed my attention. I've found little info about them and only one song that they've apparently recorded. So from what I've managed to learn the band was formed this year (2010) and so far consists of only two members: Ashwin Dutt and Arun Singh Ravi (although on their ReverbNation page they're listed as having a third member, Animesh Das). From this one song they've released I can tell that they play raw, fast hardcore punk with apparent influences from early punk and hardcore bands such as Minor Threat, Circle Jerks, Dead Kennedys and so on. I have to admit that they sound good. I'm surprised that something like this can come out of India. I wonder if there's more hidden gems like this in that vast country. For now I'm curious to see how this band will evolve.
