Novi Cvetia is one of the oldest punk bands in Bulgaria formed in Kyustendil between 1979-1980. Although they deny it, many consider them to be the first bulgarian punk band. In a recent interview Johny (vocal) says that before them were DDT, another influential bulgarian old-school punk band. Probably their first contact with punk music came while listening to Stranglers, Ramones, The Clash and Sex Pistols on Radio Skopje and afterwards decided to form a band. During the eighties the band struggle to perform in from of a larger audience as they were persecuted by the police because of their looks and music. The authorities labeled them "agents of the West", "junkies", "disturbers of the peace". During that period they had few gigs. In a recent interview Novi Cvetia stated that their music is not revolutionary, it's simply made to express their opinions. Their first concert was in 1986. Next gig was during an art performance in front of a much larger crowd. Novi Cvetia is often associated with other notable underground acts such as Violetov General and DDT. In the beginning of the nineties they had some more shows after which they decided to take a break. Since 2006 they revived their music activity and are often invited to play. In 2007 Novi Cvetia released new album titled "Zemen Rai" that includes brand new songs as well as some old ones never before released.
